Lambros Fisfis, one of Greece’s most prominent stand-up comedians, was getting ready to face the greatest challenge of his career. He was planning to give a special in a stadium of 5000 people. Stand-up comedy is fairly new in Greece and no Greek comedian has ever achieved or even tried to go live alone in front of such an audience. And then hit the pandemic...

After seeing all his prescheduled live shows cancelled, he now has to deal with the strangest condition; performing in front of literally no audience. Even the TV show he was staging got cancelled, it turns out that the absence of live audience and the laughs this would bring is crucial to the success of any such show. Most appearances he now does are in front of a computer screen for corporate events or YouTube channels. It is a disastrous condition for a stand-up comedian, from not getting any feedback about his jokes to not getting a breath from the unavoidable absence of laughs. There is a word for this in Greek and it is «κωμικοτραγικό», which can be translated as comically tragic or tragically comic...

Yet for Lambros stand-up is his life, and the only future he can think of is the past, where people were seating close to each other and were sharing the same live experience and where the only contagious thing was laughter.

This is a story of persistence, overcoming the obstacles, struggle into the unknown and hope that things will go back to normal, not by fear of change but a will to maintain the best in life, some company and a few good laughs. It is a story full of Covid and not only jokes and one that will hopefully end in a full house theater.
